On March 22, 2019, pianist George Cables and bassist Essiet Essiet delivered an intimate duo performance at Mezzrow, New York's renowned jazz venue. This engagement was part of a series of solo and duo concerts Cables held in early 2019, following a period of health challenges that had kept him away from the stage. The duo's set featured a selection of Cables' original compositions, including pieces from his 2012 album My Muse, such as "Helen's Song" and "My Muse," as well as standards like "I Loves You Porgy." The collaboration between Cables and Essiet, who had been working together since the recording of My Muse, showcased their deep musical rapport and the expressive depth of their performances.
