On August 2, 2025, the Newport Jazz Festival at Fort Adams State Park showcased a remarkable convergence of jazz luminaries and innovative artists. The Tyshawn Sorey Trio, featuring pianist Aaron Diehl and bassist Harish Ragavhan, delivered an evocative performance of selections from their latest album, Continuing, which had been released earlier that year. Their set was followed by the London-based Afrobeat ensemble Kokoroko, whose dynamic rhythms set the stage for Terence Blanchard's "Flow" project. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of his Grammy-nominated album, Blanchard's performance was a highlight of the festival. Saxophonist Nubya Garcia, known for her album Odyssey 5, brought her unique blend of jazz and Caribbean influences to the stage. The evening culminated with Dianne Reeves' soulful vocals and Janelle Monáe's electrifying presence, both of whom have been integral to the festival's diverse lineup. This lineup exemplified the festival's commitment to honoring jazz traditions while embracing contemporary sounds.
