On February 3, 2022, the Village Vanguard hosted the third night of a six-night engagement featuring drummer Tyshawn Sorey, saxophonist Joe Lovano, and guitarist Bill Frisell. This collaboration was a continuation of their February 2021 performances at the same venue, which were later released as "Live at the Village Vanguard" (livejazzlounge.com). The trio's synergy was evident, with Sorey's dynamic drumming, Lovano's expressive saxophone, and Frisell's evocative guitar creating a rich, improvisational soundscape.
At that time, Sorey was also promoting his album "Mesmerism," showcasing his versatility and depth as a composer and performer. Lovano and Frisell, both former members of Paul Motian's trio, brought their longstanding musical rapport to the stage, honoring their shared history while exploring new creative territories.
